Under the Bridge

In Under the Bridge, Larisa Crunteanu takes on space as both liminal and heterotopic. None of this story is visible, but all of it relies on its placement there, on a ‘tram island’, under the bridge. An exercise in slow ontology and a poststructuralist proposal of a stopframe of space as a projection surface. Read More

Polsko Rumuńska ballada

While living in Warsaw for a couple of years I had this weird feeling people on the street were secretly talking Romanian and not Polish. Although the two languages are very different, they share a specific sonic landscape in their usage of rough sounds, placed in the back of the mouth. Read More

A Small Insignificant Love (film)

A former TV actress revisits the characters and actors that she co-starred in the popular Romanian soap-opera „Forbidden Love“, years after the show was aired. The amateur actors relive the shared experience on the set, going through the stories, the betrayal and the madness that made up their lives on screen. While they reflect upon their roles as part of a love triangle gone mad, the absurdities of fictional reality-tv become more and more visible. Were they just instruments in a plot written by an invisible hand or did they manage to create a humane story by their own modest means? Read More

A Room Full of Hysterical Women

A series of dressing screens bearing quotes from characters from works of fiction, poetry and theater, characterized as 'hysterical', either within the same writing frame or in its criticism. Each triptich, named after a character, has a central panel with a quote from the respective character, a suggestion of itspossible  clothing and its architectural surrounding space at the time the central words were uttered. The material of the panels and the costumes is a very light organza, typical of wedding veils, and the printed quotes and architectural plans are realized in silkscreening technique, with a combination of ink and cement. BLUEPRINT

A walk-in installation and scenography about collective consciousness that explores similarities between the architectural plan and the clothing cutting pattern. The work took inspiration from Sala Omnia, a historical building originally designed to host the meetings of the Romanian Communist Party, which will convert into the National Dance Centre in the near future. Esprit de Corps

The audio script mixes monologues and dialogues in English, quotes from poetic and philosophical texts about consciousness and the self, political and administrative quotes defining nature and what is natural, replies from online discussion forums about consciousness, the possibility of knowing the truth or exemplifying errors in mathematical judgment, with warm sounds (recreated digitally) seemingly collected from natural environments—sounds that indicate human presence (laughter, sighs)—as well as sounds that imply a military atmosphere (marching, Morse code, trumpet calls).
